@markvambayBamban, Tarlac The woman in this photo is Maritess, an indigenous Aeta woman from Sitio Burog, Bamban, Tarlac, the Philippines. She takes care of the needs of her household while her husband works the fields. They earn about PhP6000 (roughly USD 120 or €100) per month selling agricultural produce and coal which they make from the wood they gather from the lands surrounding their village, lands which have been in the possession of their ancestors for generations. But their ancestral lands, their only source of livelihood, are in danger of being taken away from them with the impending construction of New Clark City, a supposedly sustainable urban development project being pushed by the Philippine government. For indigenous groups like the Aeta people, land is life. If their ancestral lands are taken away from them, will they still be able to live a decent life? And, more importantly, will we let the government take away their lands? Project Pisapungan Sitio Burog, Bamban, Tarlac, Philippines

@raaone1122 Thinking of my dad today and how he was always on the right side of history, including marching on the state capitol in the 60s against Vietnam and supporting women by marching with me back in 2004 at the March for Women’s Lives. Social justice and the Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) were important to him and I think he would be so energized by all the youth out there right now marching for change. #yahrzeit #twoyears #missyou #tikkunolam#socialjustice
@_awad Last weekend I found myself in front of 1,000 people, chairing a few meetings as part of the @ndpcanada federal policy convention. There were many things that stood out over the four days, among them this moment when the members unanimously supported a call to end the racist practice of carding (a.k.a. street checks) by the police. For all the frustrations and setbacks that movements for justice face, there are moments that remind you that it's worth the effort and that things can change. As Ellen Gabriel, a Mohawk activist and one of the speakers at the Convention, said - 30 years ago these conversations weren't being had on this scale anywhere, even at the NDP. There's so much more to be done. But we must do it. And we will win. . . . #ndp #socialjustice#blacklivesmatter#continuons#nelacherien#boncourage #blm #cdnpoli #canada #canada150 #colonialism#colonialism15000#explorecanada#wanderlust#wanderlusting
@_hipsterteacher_ Many of you have asked about the books I use during my social issues unit. These are many of them, but if you would like a more complete list, please DM me you email address and I’ll send it to you.
@aisha.adkins As children, growth is a major focus in our lives.⠀ ⠀ We outgrow our shoes when we experience growth spirts and use flash cards to grow our vocabulary.⠀ ⠀ And everyone is always asking us what we want to be when we grow up.⠀ ⠀ But then, something happens. We become “adults” and we are no longer focus on growth, but settling. Finishing. Completing.⠀ ⠀ Why?⠀ ⠀ What causes us to stop working on ourselves? Why don’t we concern ourselves with constant growth and improvement? What keeps you from being better every day?⠀ ⠀ Think about that for a moment. I’ll wait…⠀ ⠀ Now that you’ve identified what’s holding you back from constant, consistent growth – BREAK THE PATTERN! ⠀ It’s never too late to enrich your life, even if it’s just for you! Learn a new word a day, learn to play ukulele via @YouTube, or sign up to be a volunteer tutor at your local after school program.⠀ ⠀ Heck, learn to swim and then become a triathlete.⠀ ⠀
@rachaelmward Lent is here and so is 30 days of giving. I need your help to raise my personal fundraising goals for this year's Reformation Project Leadership Development Cohort. What is this you ask? @thereformationproject is a Bible-based, Christian grassroots organization that works to promote inclusion of LGBTQ people by reforming church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity. Our vision is of a global church that fully affirms LGBTQ people. Myself and 33 other people are on the journey of a lifetime being taught and equipped with a message worth hearing and advocating for - there are no single issue lives. Our struggles belong to all of us. Your struggles are mine and mine, yours. As a queer Christian, I believe that we are threaded together by design and created equal. It's in the fibers that bind us in our commonalities of the kinship we share through creation. And it is seen moving throughout the text - to stand with those who are oppressed - even if we do not reflect their
@witandgracemag "I am too young to vote, but I'm not too young to start a petition. I'm not too young to use my voice, to shout and scream until something changes." — Anisha Saripalli, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting survivor. . . . Just a reminder to not let all of the issues in our world overwhelm us to the point that we do nothing and say nothing. Change doesn’t happen overnight but it will happen through consistent and fervent prayer, policy initiatives and increased funding for organizations like the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence and Everytown for Gun Safety. . . #bethechange#changemakers#witandgracemag
