#WorldDayOfSocialJustice2018 #JusticeMatters - ABOUT THIS DAY: http://www.un.org/en/events/socialjusticeday/ ✌⚖=
Last week I had the privilege of challanging people to love others, which at it's core is what justice is all about. I loved hearing afterwards people in that audience are making decisions, taking stands, and moving forward to make the difference in the world they were born to make! #staywoke #woke #justicematters #LiveJustly #seekjustice

Photo by @marcusbleasdale For today’s @unitednations Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, I wanted to share this picture from one of my trips to the DRC back in 2008.
A child soldier with a community-based militia group was waiting in Kanyabyonga, in eastern DRC, as rebels advanced. He was recruited while young men in the area were being abducted by rebel forces. He didn’t want to be forced to fight, so he volunteered with the militia.
Since then, a lot has been done to try to stop the practice of using child soldiers, including the #internationalcriminalcourt’s landmark verdict in the Lubanga case. #child-soldiers

Want an easy way to change the world? Host a clothing exchange! I've done a few of these and they are not only not too hard, but they are a great way to connect with your community and help people learn about #humantrafficking
__________________
This exchange was hosted by @shewomensministrysd for the @lbd.project -- they did a spectacular job setting out tables, lamps and giving a botique feel to the experience. People from the community were invited and a lot of people were able to get rid of clothing they will never wear, helping them clean out, feel good, and embrace #LessisMore But, they were also able to leave with some new-to-them clothing or accessories. And if course, free appetizers and dessert and doesn't hurt!

However, at the same time, they each pitch in a few bucks to go to local trafficking orgs. Those who come learn about what human trafficking looks like, about different organizations in the area. This complicated subject is made understandable, while they are graciously challenged to care. It is hard to get people to attend a lecture or event on this subject, so there are enough great things about it to give people the willingness to show up anyway. Then, the leftover nice clothing goes to local orgs to use it for survivors, or places that can sell it to give the profits to help survivors of trafficking. And, at the same time, the people who come are reducing the demand for clothing made by slaves and sweatshops. Point being, this is a *win* all around.

I've spoken and hosted a few of these, but I've always needed the help of friends who love being #pinteresty or don't mind background work. Although many pitched in, the majority of this event was pulled off by only five people, but it's social impact was great!

Point being, if you want to do something to change the world, consider hosting one of these through your work, church, book club, moms group. I can hook you up with the @lbd.project stuff to give you the human trafficking info youd need, and I'd love to speak for you (although it might be easier for you to find someone locally if you live far outside of the #SanDiego area!)

I have a ten year old nephew. He enjoys playing on his Switch, playing basketball, and playing games on the Android phone. He doesn't have a toy gun unless you count a water gun. This picture makes my heart ache. Particularly at the joy in that one boy's face holding the gun. He looks to be about the same size as my ten year old nephew. The enslavement of the African people and their descendents in the Caribbean and Americas was traumatic. But what happened to those on the African continent was just as traumatic. The manipulation, the physical and propaganda assault against the African people and the African Diaspora is nothing but evil. It's exactly that type of evil that leds to child soldiers.

So, today is @unitednations Day Against the Use of Child Soldiers, I wanted to share this picture from an amazing photographer I follow named @marcusbleasdale from a trip he took to the DRC (The Democratic Republic of Congo) back in 2008.
He noted, “A child soldier with a community-based militia group was waiting in Kanyabyonga, in eastern DRC, as rebels advanced. He was recruited while young men in the area were being abducted by rebel forces. He didn’t want to be forced to fight, so he volunteered with the militia.”
Praying for young men like him all over the world and especially in one of my favorite places on earth; Africa. #child-soldiers #eastafrica #africa #congo #democraticrepublicofcongo #justice #stopfighting #peace #honor #love #kindness #joy #love

Today, Canada reaffirms that children should never be used as soldiers. As Romeo Dallaire mentioned at the Vancouver Conference: “we must make the use of children as weapons of war unthinkable. Failure to do so leaves all children in conflict vulnerable to being robbed of a core part of their humanity and saddled with a terrible burden that can take a lifetime to repair, if at all.’’
